I attended a High school with this school motto. With the brilliance of hindsight, this school fulfilled this promise for me and much more. The education I received provided me with Knowledge, critical thinking skills and the ability to be open minded and non-judgmental. I tend to weigh folks up by their character rather than by their appearance, and strongly believe that one should never Assume as it makes an ASS of you and me.
Looking back I can remember the names of some of my classmates. Perhaps their names come to mind because they were from a different culture to mine. For instance, Ellen Ramcharan was from Trinidad and was Chauffeur driven to school daily. She was Muslim and she invited me to her home for a weekend. Her dad was the Ambassador from Trinidad to Jamaica. Pamela Swindlehurst was British she had similar transportation, her dad was in charge of the Jamaica Bus Service at that time. Primla Harjani was Hindu, she lived in front of the school , so when we studied world religions her parents allowed the class to cross the road and visit their living room where we saw their temple . My Maths teacher Mrs Brown was Canadian and I think her Husband worked for the bank of Jamaica, My English teacher Mrs Chapman was British and so was the Principal Mary Dawson.
This year my School will celebrate its 100th anniversary. I am so pleased it is still there influencing more young women. #Teachersmakeadifference
